Planning your move is important to reducing the stress of the actual moving day. Below are just some examples of the steps outlined in Move It Now’s detailed Move Planning Checklist attached to our Customer Resource section.
4 - 6 WEEKS BEFORE THE MOVE
- Call for moving estimates.
- Book your move. Booking in advance will help you to reserve specific service dates.
- Consider a garage sale or donate to charity the items you won’t be taking with you.
- Start packing if you are packing yourself
- Contact your utility companies (telephone, water, electricity, gas) to disconnect services at origin and to set up the services at your new location.
LAST WEEK BEFORE THE MOVE
- Confirm your move date and time with your mover.
- Finish packing
- Determine what clothes and items you will need until you are able to unpack the boxes and put those in suitcases.
- Defrost freezers, disconnect computers, printers, DVD players, TV’s, etc. so when the movers arrive they can start immediately.
- Put together items you will need for a final cleaning: broom, dust cloth, vacuum, etc.
- Cancel newspapers, cable, satellite, landscapers and other services.
DAY OF THE MOVE
- Pack your toiletries and other personal items.
- Introduce yourself to the movers and find out who the lead mover is. Give him a tour of the house and a brief description of what you expect.
- Make yourself accessible to the movers. They will inevitably have questions for you.
- When the movers are done, check the entire house to ensure the movers have loaded everything you want transported.
- Don’t forget to say goodbye to your neighbors.
